LearnProductionCreate your own webinar studio

Want to create your own DIY webinar studio? It’s possible in only 6 easy steps! Let’s get started and transform that boring room into a real webinar studio!

Step 1: The environment

Presenting a webinar in a busy environment can be very difficult. That’s why we recommend to present the webinar in a separate room. Where colleagues cannot disturb you. Make sure your internet connection works perfectly though!

Step 2: Create a background

A busy or eye-catching background can distract the viewer. But presenting a webinar against a plain white background is boring. Instead, use a sheet of paper from a photoshoot or camera shop. You can use a stand for the paper or simply cut it and stick it on the wall.

Step 3: Use studio lights

Giving a webinar with lights above your head can cause some annoying shadows on your face. Turn off the ceiling lights, block as much outside light as possible and get your own light setup inside. You don’t need fancy equipment to look good on screen. With three well-placed lights you’ll have the perfect amount of light for the webinar.

Step 4: Soundproof your studio room

Giving a webinar in an empty space can cause echo or other sound issues. This isn’t just annoying, it sounds like you’re broadcasting from your bathroom. Sound-absorbing tiles help, as well as putting big furniture in the room. Or simply choose a room with some cosy carpet. The goal is to prevent soundwaves from bumping off the walls.

Step 5: Get yourself into the picture

Use an external webcam. The height of your camera is very important during the webinar. Place the webcam on a tripod or attach it to your computer. Remember to position the webcam right, not too far from below and not too far from above.

Step 6: Leave your setup where it is

When you have the option, it’s best to keep your setup the way it is for the foreseeable future. We at WebinarGeek discovered that having a DIY webinar studio is a good source of creativity and it made the production of our webinars a lot easier. It’s also a great way to be able to comment on recent developments in your industry.
